Morgan Stanley earns revenue from three business areas: Global Wealth Management Group, Asset Management and Institutional Securities.

  • Global Wealth Management: This business segment of Morgan Stanley is responsible for investment advisory and brokerage services. The total list of financial products and services include financial and wealth planning services, credit and other lending products, annuity and insurance products, and banking and cash management. Global wealth management services are given to small and medium-size institutions as well as individuals.
  • Asset management: The asset management wing of Morgan Stanley provide services related to fixed income, alternative investments, retail equity and equity to retail and institutional clients. This service is done through 3 major distribution channels. The non-proprietary channel among the 3 channels is comprised of third party banks, financial planners and broker-dealers among other intermediaries. A proprietary channel comprises representatives of Morgan Stanley. The institutional channel provides global portfolio solutions and advisory services to financial institutions, central banks, and corporations.
  • Institutional securities: It is the most prominent and profitable business arm of Morgan Stanley. The investment banking arm of institutional securities is engaged in corporate lending, financial advisory services like mergers and acquisitions, and raising of capital. It also conducts trading, sales, financing and market-making activities. Financial research is also done by this business segment.
