Supplemental Security Income

Full Definition of Supplemental Security Income

SSI is wage replacement funds provided by the Federal Government to the aged, blind or disabled who have very limited income and who are unable to work for at least 12 continuous months. Claimants may receive compensation from a personal injury claim and SSI together but only if their income and resources remain below the allowable SSI limit.

If a claimant is receiving Supplemental Security Income and they win an injury claim the compensation from the claim can be so high that it will terminate their rights to collect SSI benefits. If you are a party in an injury claim and you are receiving SSI talk to your lawyer about how to receive compensation without jeopardizing your SSI benefits.
