Full Definition of Moving Average


Moving Average (MA) is an indicator frequently used in technical analysis showing a running average value of a security’s price.

Moving averages are generally used to smooth the stock price,  measure momentum and define areas of possible support and resistance. Some trading systems use two moving averages, with buy or sell signals triggered at crossover points. The Death Cross is an example.
