JPY is the three-character currency abbreviation for the Japanese Yen based on the ISO-4217 standard codes. JPY is the official currency of Japan. The common usage symbol for the JPY is ¥. The Bank of Japan or the NIPPON GINKO is the government institution that issues the JPY. The JPY does not divide into smaller units. currency is issued in both Yen coins and notes ranging from the 1 Yen coin to the 10,000 Yen note. The JPY is considered a major currency and is very actively traded in the international currency markets. The value of the JPY floats, meaning that market forces determine the value of the JPY. The approximate conversion value (in late 2005) for the JPY in US dollars is JPY 110+ to USD 1.
