The FTSE Group (pronounced “footsie”) computes tens of thousands of indices of market performance daily.

The most famous stock index of the FTSE Group is the FTSE 100, first calculated in 1984, which consists of the 100 largest companies by market capitalization on the London Stock Exchange. The composition of the FTSE 100 is reviewed quarterly. The FTSE Group formed as an independent company in 1995 from what was originally a joint venture of the Financial Times and the London Stock Exchange. Formerly a UK-centric organization, the FTSE Group’s indices now cover markets worldwide, and the firm conducts business from 8 offices around the globe. The FTSE Group spearheaded the creation of the first standardized classification system for public companies, the FTSE Global Classification System.
