The Department of Housing and Urban Development, (HUD), established in 1965, is a ministry of the US government. The Department of Housing and Urban Development strives to make homeownership affordable. The Department of Housing and Urban Development regulates Ginnie Mae, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. State and local governments, and non-profit organizations get funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to assist homeless people. The Department of Housing and Urban Development also conducts fair housing education and enforcement. Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) from the Department of Housing and Urban Development provide economic development, job opportunities and housing rehabilitation. Federal Housing Authority under the Department of Housing and Urban Development promote programs for single and multi-family home buyers. The Department of Housing and Urban Development has special programs for rental assistance and for first-time homebuyers.
