Cognitive Functions

Full Definition of Cognitive Functions

Cognitive functions are the ability of the brain to process information. Severe brain injuries from personal injuries can lower the cognitive function of a claimant. Individuals commonly suffer brain injuries and loss of cognitive functions if they have been severely injured in a bike, motorcycle, or car accident. Birthing injuries due to medical malpractice may also result in loss of cognitive functions. Loss of cognitive function can decrease memory, the ability to learn new concepts, verbal fluency, the ability to process and learn new information, and to speak or perform general actions such as walking, reaching, or grasping.

If you or someone you love has suffered the loss of cognitive function due to a severe brain injury and this injury was caused by the negligence of another person or a medical professional, you may be able to file a personal injury case. Specific requirements exist to win a medical malpractice and personal injury case and all cases must be filed within a specified time frame.
