Certified Financial Planner, or CFP, is a financial professional who is approved by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. A typical Certified Financial Planner is an experienced financial expert whose job it is to advise clients on the matters of income tax planning, retirement planning, and estate planning. A Certified Financial Planner may also assist a client in investment planning, risk management, as well as small business planning. In order to become a fully licensed Certified Financial Planner, one must endure a series of rigorous examinations. Furthermore, a Certified Financial Planner is required to complete a yearly continuing education course in order to maintain the Certified Financial Planner standing. A strong emphasis is made on professional conduct and adherence to the Certified Financial Planner code of ethics. When selecting a Certified Financial Planner it is recommended that the potential client inquires about his or her professional experience, background, and references.
