Business Day

Full Definition of Business Day

The business day is defined as any of the days Monday through Friday less holidays, during which most businesses are in operation. Most businesses are closed on the days that are not a business day. By this definition, approximately 252 of the 365 days in a year should be a business day. Not all are, however, as every nation has its own national holidays each year. The holiday is generally understood not be a business day, even if it falls on a day of the week which would be a business day. In usage related to scheduling and delivery timetables, the phrase business day is interchangeable with working day. (e.g. All appointments must be made at least one business day in advance.) A very closely related term to the business day is business hours. Business hours are defined as beginning at 9am and ending at 5pm on every business day.
