Broad Ticker

Full Definition of Broad Ticker

The broad ticker is an electronic information service that displays financial news and information as well as traditional stock market ticker prices. Dow Jones is the traditional supplier of this service. The broad ticker is often on display in the board room of a stockbroker.

To avoid charges of insider trading, appearance on the board ticker is a traditional definition of public information.

Old-timers say that in the days of ticker tape machines, the broad ticker was a teletype machine service that provided instant financial news in the post-World War II era. Brokers often would stream the headlines from the broad ticker service in their “board rooms.”
