The World Court, officially known as the International Court of Justice (ICJ), is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN). It is located in The Hague, Netherlands. The ICJ settles legal disputes between states and gives advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorised UN organs and specialised agencies. Its judgements and advisory opinions are binding and final for the parties involved. The court consists of 15 judges elected by the UN General Assembly and the Security Council for nine-year terms. The ICJ plays a crucial role in promoting the peaceful resolution of international disputes and upholding the rule of law at the global level.
