Parental Neglect
Quick Summary of Parental Neglect

Parental neglect refers to a situation where caregivers fail to provide adequate care, supervision, or support for their children, leading to harm or risk of harm to the child’s health, safety, or well-being. Neglect can take various forms, including physical neglect (failure to provide basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, or medical care), emotional neglect (lack of attention, affection, or emotional support), and educational neglect (failure to ensure access to education or support educational needs). Parental neglect can have serious consequences for children, including physical and psychological harm, developmental delays, and long-term social and emotional difficulties. Authorities, such as child protective services or law enforcement, may intervene to protect the child’s welfare and provide necessary services or interventions to address the neglectful situation.
