A general denial is a legal response filed by a defendant in a civil lawsuit, typically in the form of an answer to the plaintiff’s complaint. In a general denial, the defendant denies all of the allegations made by the plaintiff without specifying which allegations are being contested. By filing a general denial, the defendant is essentially stating that they deny liability for the claims brought against them and require the plaintiff to prove each element of their case. This pleading is commonly used when the defendant disputes the entirety of the plaintiff’s claims and does not wish to admit to any of the allegations made against them.
