Definition: Employee Stock Options

Quick Summary of Employee Stock Options

Employee stock options are compensation to an employee in the form of the right to buy shares of the employing company’s stock at a set price. It is assumed that the employee will only do this when the current stock price is much higher than his purchase price and that he will then immediately sell the shares, pocketing the difference.
