Established by the central bank governors in 1974, which strives to improve guidelines placed on wholesale and retail banks by the central banks or similar authorities. Committee is responsible for creating bank policy guidelines used for both member and non-member countries and works with authorities to implement the guidelines. The Basel Committee on Bank Supervision does not have authority over government or other authorities in making the guidelines, but the guidelines it creates are followed and well regarded by the financial communities.
