Full Definition of Assessable Capital Stock


Capital stock that may be subject to assessment, typically consisting of shares of financial institutions. Holders of assessable capital stock may be liable for more than the price of the stock in the event that the institution goes bankrupt or becomes insolvent. More generally, any stock issued by a bank or other financial institution may be referred to as assessable capital stock.
