Archipelago


Full Definition of Archipelago


A division of NYSE Group. Archipelago originated in 1996 as an electronic communication network (ECN) serving the NASDAQ marketplace. In 2000, it joined forced with the Pacific Stock Exchange to introduce ARCAEX, the first fully automated stock exchange. In 2002, Archipelago and the Pacific Stock Exchange merged with the New York Stock Exchange to form the NYSE Group.
