Definition: Ankle Biter

Ankle Biter

Full Definition of Ankle Biter

Stock issues for one company whose total market value is less than $500 million. These stocks are labeled ankle biters because they are thought to be nibbling at larger market capitalization stocks with the hopes of surpassing those stocks. This type of stock has the potential to outperform stocks that have a market value over $500 million because they are more speculative and can do better during recessions.
