A printed document that advertises or describes a school, commercial enterprise, forthcoming book, etc., in order to attract or inform clients, members, buyers, or investors.

  1. A document, distributed to prospective members, investors, buyers, or participants, which describes an institution (such as a university), a publication, or a business and what it has to offer.

Prospectuses are filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission as Form 424B3, which makes them public documents available to everyone. Companies also file supplements to their prospectuses. The documents should also be available from the company.
